The Name

The Legend of Istrian Winds

For centuries, the winds (lat. Vento) of Istria have whispered secrets between the ancient stone villages. They speak of a central point, a stone’s thrown from anywhere, where all the currents converge. This point is Baderna - the heart of stone and the cradle of Villa Ventis.

Here, the winds are not obstacles, but guides, a silent navigator’s web. A soft Maestral from the west catches you and gently lifts you to the Venetian towers of Poreč. A brisk Bura from the east carries you swiftly across the rolling hills to the silent, truffle-rich hilltowns of Motovun and Grožnjan, sweeping over the famed terraced vineyards that surround them. A warm wind from the south leads you to the ancient stones of Pula’s amphitheater. Reaching any corner of Istria from this hub is not a journey, but a smooth drift on a current of air. And the wind that carries you out always, in the cool of the evening, brings you safely home to the tranquil oasis of Villa Ventis.
